The modern leaders of the club enjoy their soccer and want to see children enjoying it. We aim to encourage children into sport by providing a fun, safe, friendly and supportive team environment – promoting exercise and confidence building activities. We believe children’s and youth sport should primarily be about enjoyment of the game, regardless of the final result. This attitude encourages the players to return, building their skills and maintaining their fitness. It is also seems good at producing wining teams.
The club’s local area is one of the most culturally diverse areas of Australia. The club brings together kids from a very broad range of backgrounds. We make them teammates and they (and their families) soon become friends.
Being a small club, ALL of our coaches, team managers, committee members and other helpers are volunteers. Most of the committee members also coach, referee and help set up and tidy up the fields. And of course they have day jobs and family.
The club has been a leader of efforts within our soccer association to ensure any violence, racial abuse and similar unwanted sometime associates of youth sport are not tolerated – leading to the association introducing zero tolerance rule in 2005. This will ensure children’s soccer is a great environment for children.
Whilst the focus for the club is junior soccer football, we welcome senior soccer as we have a rich and proud tradition in excess of a century of our various teams attaining success and even state championship titles. More recently the transient nature of the changing demographics of our local area makes it difficult to retain a core group of seniors however this will not stop our club supporting adult players who wish to form teams and call Robin Thomas Reserve their home ground. As Parramatta’s residential population continues to increases exponentially, the glory days of senior soccer football are not too far away.
